Zoom Boom Specs
A zoom boom forklift is an industrial machine designed to handle outdoor conditions. This equipment has an extendable boom arm that lifts up and away from its base. For this reason, these machines are often known as extended boom forklifts or even shooting boom forklifts.
Because of its ability to move loads at an angle, an extended boom forklift has much greater reach than a simple aerial work platform. The outriggers at the front of the equipment add stability to prevent the zoom boom lift from tipping when the arm is extended.
Lift Height
Most extended boom forklifts have a maximum lift height of around 55 feet. This number will fluctuate depending on the specific model you choose. Though less common, some zoom booms can lift up to 70 feet.
Keep in mind that lift height depends on forward reach. As you decrease the angle between the arm and the base of the zoom boom, the maximum lift height decreases. Think about the areas you’ll need to reach with your equipment and consider their accessibility. This will help you determine the lift height you need before you start shopping for a zoom boom forklift.
Load Capacity
You’ll also need to consider load capacity when purchasing a zoom boom forklift. Different applications require the handling of different-sized loads. On average, zoom booms have a load capacity of around 8,000 pounds. However, some equipment can lift up to 14,000 pounds.
Remember, load capacity varies as the load center changes. Since an extended boom forklift reaches up and out, the load center changes frequently. It is important to familiarize yourself with the load capacity chart on the equipment to ensure safe operation.
