Cherry Picker Lift Specs
A cherry picker lift, commonly known as a boom lift, is an aerial lift with an extendable arm that lifts up and away from the base of the equipment. The multi-directionality of the aerial boom arm allows this equipment to reach areas that are otherwise hard to access. In contrast, other aerial man lifts, like scissor lifts, only extend vertically.
There are two types of cherry picker boom lifts. The first type has a straight boom arm, while the second has pivot points that allow the arm to bend. A cherry picker lift is “telescopic” if it has a straight arm and “articulating” if it has a bendable arm.
Articulating lifts can navigate around obstacles more easily. However, straight mast options typically have a higher load capacity.
Lift Height
Lift height depends on the brand and model you choose. Typically, articulating options can lift up to 160 feet while telescopic, or straight mast, options can reach closer to 190 feet.
The horizontal reach of a cherry picker lift depends on its lift height. The horizontal reach of a 40-foot machine is about 34 feet. For a 120-foot machine, it is closer to 75 feet.
Because of their substantial lift height, cherry picker boom lifts are good alternatives to cranes. They offer increased mobility and are typically smaller, making it easier for them to navigate around crowded worksites.
Load Capacity
Load capacity also varies by model. A cherry picker lift has an average load capacity of 500 to 1,000 pounds. Articulating aerial boom lifts typically have a lower load capacity than their straight mast counterparts.
